The following summary of requirements sets out what is required when a Rolls-Royce Service activity involves the use of lifting equipment, whether it is carried out on a Rolls-Royce site or at other locations not controlled by Rolls-Royce such as customer premises.
Please note: Lifting equipment such as cranes and hoists must only be operated by people who are trained, qualified and authorised.
All lifting equipment shall be maintained and lifting operations will be planned and carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Company International Standard and Guideline.
All Rolls-Royce lifting equipment, including lifting accessories, shall be identified on an inventory schedule, which will be used to ensure that each item has received the maintenance and inspection required.
Equipment will be clearly marked with its ‘safe working load’ (SWL). Information will be provided to identify lifting points and to identify the centre of gravity (C of G) and any potential for the C of G to shift as a component is lifted or rotated.
Suitable storage will be provided for lifting accessories to ensure it remains safe for use by preventing accidental damage or deterioration of its condition due to environmental effects.
Where Rolls-Royce Service Engineers are responsible for carrying out the lifting operations associated with any service work, they will have received sufficient training and experience to enable them to be considered competent to carry out the operation in a safe manner.
Prior to the commencement of any crane lift, the appointed signalman/signaller and the crane operator must ensure a common understanding of the hand signals to be used.
All lifting equipment used away from a Rolls-Royce site will be inspected by a competent person before it is taken offsite to ensure it is safe to use. It must also be accompanied by physical evidence that the last thorough examination required has been carried out.
Where lifting equipment and/or accessories are provided by the customer or other 3rd party, RR requirements and expectations still apply.
