Fire & Explosion

All employees should become familiar with the emergency procedures to be followed in the event of a fire. Enquire with the controller of the host site if this information was not part of your induction to the site.

Be Aware of Flammable Materials

Make yourself aware of the presence of flammable/highly flammable and/or combustible materials that may be in the area.

Explosive Amospheres

Enquire with the site controller/host safety representative about the potential for explosive atmospheres being present.

Identify Potential Sources of Ignition

Identify potential sources of ignition, naked flames, welding or burning operations, grinding sparks, static electricity, etc.

No-Smoking Policy

Comply with any no-smoking policy and report any evidence of non-compliance with the policy to site management/site controller.

Fire Detection / Suppression Systems

Are there any fire detection/suppression measures within the area?

Emergency Exercises

Familiarise yourself with emergency plans and cooperate with any emergency exercise that takes place whilst at a host site.

Fire Extinguishers

Make a note of the location of fire extinguishers and other equipment provided to protect escape routes and emergency exits.

Obstructing Escape Routes

Never block any escape routes or obstruct access to firefighting equipment.
