Wear a hard hat to protect you from falling objects or bumping your head. Select head protection appropriate to the task and environment such as confined spaces, or working at height where conventional hard hats might not be appropriate.

Wear either glasses, goggles, or full face visor to protect your eyes from particles, dust, ejected materials, sparks, etc.

To be effective, HPDs such as earplugs or ear defenders must fit correctly and must be compatible with other PPE you may be using. PPE should be considered the lowest level of control. Noise should be controlled at source, either by employing a quieter process/method or isolation using acoustic barriers.

Wear a face mask to prevent inhalation of dust fumes, sprays and vapours.

Wearing a harness will protect you from falling when working at heights, or to facilitate rescue from confined spaces. All employees using a body harness and lanyard need to have a completed the relevant training.

High-Visibility Clothing helps to highlight the presence of employees in traffic movement and low visibility environments.

Wear gloves to protect your hands from hazardous materials or sharp edges whilst handling. Select gloves appropriate to the task and environment from the approved list.

Use a personal oxygen alarm/gas detector to measure oxygen levels or detect and provide warning of the presence of hazardous gases. Seek further advice from your Health and Safety Advisor.

Wear boots with a 200 joule toecap, steel midsole and defined heel (if access by ladder is required to prevent foot slipping off rungs). You may require ankle height boots to support the ankle on uneven surfaces. Anti-slip properties are required for employees working in wet/oily environments. Anti-static properties may be required in some circumstances.
