Persons working alone or in a remote location should be aware of the additional risks associated with being unaccompanied. The following points should be considered:
Ensure site contact is aware of your presence at all times
Adequate two-way communication, either by phone or radio, to be available at all times (be aware some areas may restrict the use of mobile phones and/or radios)
Regular communication checks (regularity depends on nature of hazard)
Arrangements should be made for lone workers to keep in regular contact with their manager or base location (regularity should be determined by the nature of the hazard)
Supervisors will be contacted if there is any uncertainty with an aspect of the work
